What is the difference between SAP Event Mesh and Advanced Event Mesh?
SAP Event Mesh, also available as the Event Mesh capability of SAP Integration Suite, is a single-broker service for SAP-centric eventing at low to moderate volumes. SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh is a distributed network of brokers for high-volume, hybrid and multi-cloud event-driven architecture, with dynamic message routing, more protocols, replay and tracing.
Both let applications publish business events to topics and consume them through queues, so producers and consumers stay decoupled. The difference is scale and topology.
| Criterion | Event Mesh | Advanced event mesh |
|---|---|---|
| Topology | Single broker | Distributed mesh of brokers across clouds, on-premise and edge |
| Volume | Low to moderate | High volume |
| Routing | Within the broker | Dynamic message routing between brokers |
| Protocols | AMQP-based | Broader, including AMQP, MQTT and SMF |
| Operations | Basic | Event management, replay and distributed tracing |
Start with Event Mesh when you are connecting a few SAP applications and side-by-side extensions. Move to advanced event mesh when event volume, geographic distribution or the number of consuming teams grows. SAP also provides an Event Mesh bridge so existing scenarios can exchange events with advanced event mesh without a big-bang move. Compare them side by side in Event Mesh vs Advanced Event Mesh, or read the event-driven integration guide.
